Give Essential Privacy Policy

June 4, 2020

Give Essential (“Give Essential”) has one purpose: to help essential workers who are on the front lines and are now facing personally dangerous conditions and lacking access to common items. We use information to match people who want to donate items with essential workers who need them, and we will not sell your data.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you interact with our websites, social media sites and handles, and email as well as any related services, sales, marketing or events (our “Services”).

This Policy does not apply to non-Give Essential websites and mobile applications that may link to the Services or be linked to or from the Services; please review the privacy policies on those websites and applications directly to understand their privacy practices.

Information We Collect

Information you give us

In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us. Some of the Services may include features or services that permit you to enter contact information and other information about you. We collect and store any information you enter on our Services. This includes:

  • Contact information when you complete forms on our website, such as to express an interest in donating items to essential workers or receiving donated items. If you are an essential worker, we ask you to provide proof of employment, such as a copy of a paycheck or email from your Human Resources team.

  • Email address information when subscribing to our email newsletters.

  • If you contact us, we may keep a record of that correspondence and any contact information provided.

If you choose to make a monetary donation to Give Essential, we use GoFundMe as our fundraising platform. GoFundMe may receive information that you submit on its website and treats that information according to its Privacy Policy. We may receive a copy of any contact information you submit via GoFundMe and treat that information according to this policy. We do not receive your credit card number.

You should only access the services within a secure environment.

How We Share Your Information

In Short: The essence of our Services involves sharing essential worker information with donors so that goods may be provided to essential workers. We also share information where required by law, to protect your rights, or where required for business purposes.

We may disclose information to external parties in the following situations:

  • Complete the matching process: If you are an essential worker, we match your need with a donor who can assist you and share your contact information with that donor so that they can provide the items you have requested. We share only the information necessary to fulfill this purpose and do not share your essential worker verification. We do not share donor information with essential workers, but if you are a donor, the essential worker may receive some information about you if choose to communicate directly or provide contact information on a receipt included in a donation. We share essential worker and donor information with the volunteers who facilitate the email communication necessary to complete the matches.

  • Service Providers: We may engage the following types of vendors to perform functions on our behalf such as: advertising partners, auditing and accounting firms; professional services consultants; providers of analytics services; security vendors; and IT vendors.

  • Social Media Platforms: Where you choose to interact with us through social media, your interaction with these programs typically allows the social media company to collect some information about you through digital cookies they place on your device and other tracking mechanisms they place on your device. In some cases, the social media company may recognize you through its digital cookies even when you do not interact with their application. Please visit the social media companies’ respective privacy policies to better understand their data collection practices and the controls they make available to you.

  • Legal Obligations: We may disclose your information where we are legally required to do so in order to comply with applicable law, governmental requests, a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process, such as in response to a court order or a subpoena (including in response to public authorities to meet national security or law enforcement requirements).

  • Vital Interests: We may disclose your information where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding potential violations of our policies, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person and illegal activities, or as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.

  • In the Event of a Change of Ownership or Corporate Organization: We may transfer to another entity or its affiliates or service providers some or all information about you in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, acquisition, sale of assets or any line of business, change in ownership control, or financing transaction. We cannot promise that an acquiring party or the merged entity will have the same privacy practices or treat your information the same as described in this Policy.

We may share aggregated or de-identified data at our discretion, including with marketing agencies, media agencies and analytics providers. These other companies will not be able to relate this data to identifiable individuals.
